How to Tell When It's Time to Change Your Oil
Generally, you should always stick to recommended oil change mileage intervals to avoid damage to your engine from low oil levels, but if your oil does become depleted your Subaru has dashboard lights to alert you it may be time for an oil change. In particular, be on the lookout for for oil can light (which resembles a "genie lamp" in appearance) as an indicator your oil level is too low. This light is actually called the oil pressure gauge and it means you are low on oil.
Driving when you are low on oil is a quick way to burn up your engine. However, there is no need to panic. If this light appears when you are on the road, pull over as soon as it is safe to do so. If the light shows up when you first start your car, turn your vehicle off and check your oil level.
