This week as you make the trek to grandma’s house for Christmas, don’t worry over the long road ahead. Sit back and relax, because we are sharing some of our best secrets to make this season’s drive the best road trip yet. Like what you see or know of a trick we left out? Let us know!

Gas Apps

Gas prices always seem to spike during the holidays and it can be difficult to know where to get the best deal for gas when driving in a new town. Download a smartphone app like GasBuddy and quickly find the cheapest or closest gas around. Simply open the app the app will give you a variety of choices based on your current location.

Snack Packs

Save time by not stopping every time someone gets hungry. Instead, make snack packs that will keep everyone full and won’t make a mess. Pack all the snacks in one large container or give everyone their own small container and let them fill it with the snacks they please. While you are at it, be sure to back a car trash can for wrappers and a roll of paper towels for spills. Don’t have a car trash can? A cereal storage container will work in a pinch.

Tetris: Christmas Present Edition

When traveling with holiday presents, it can be a hassle to find a place to neatly store them all. You worked hard on wrapping those presents, you don’t want them getting messed up during the drive. Instead, grab a plastic storage tub or two carefully stack all the presents inside. Now you don’t have to worry about your great-aunt’s picture frame getting broken or those bows falling off. Plastic tubs are also a great way to keep gift bags from falling over and spilling out.

Distraction At Its Finest

Don’t go mad hearing “Are we there yet?” a million times on the road, Instead, make sure the kids have plenty to do for the long road ahead. If your vehicle has an entertainment system, pack the family’s favorite holiday movies for a movie marathon. Coloring and activity books are great and mess free option too. And of course a competitive round of the classic car color or license plate game is a great way to pass the time.
